This weekend, Senator Hillary Rodham Clinton announced her widely expected entrance into the race for President of the United States. Whatever we may think of the "carpet bagger" Senator from New York you've got to give her props for chutzpah and for some pretty courageous moves over the years. Long before her Congressional colleagues began to jump on the bandwagon our then First Lady advocated a form of national healthcare and a distinct Palestinian state with equitable treatment of Palestinians by the United States versus the needless perception of favoritism that most of the world accuses us of showing to our ally and the Palestinian's occupier: Israel.

Moreover, she has shown personal strength and resilience when her leader-of-the -free-world husband publicly humiliated her with another in a series of cheap trysts and needless cover-up lies.

American politics has become so mired in a self-made cesspool of corruption, cronyism, and amateurism (starting at the very top with a failed Commander-in-Chief who, day by day, descends into his own little delusional padded room) that We-the-People are starved for true, professional, leadership. So, like a drowning man, we clutch at straws; the latest being a junior Senator by the name of Barack Obama (see my previous post, "Barack, You Almost Had Me"). I have no reason to not believe in Senator Obama's intellect and his sincerity. That being said, he is undeniably inexperienced in matters both domestic and foreign.

Assuming he is a good man then, like we do with our professional football quarterbacks, he should be on the bench for a couple of seasons. I'm not backing any candidate but, if I did, I think I could understand a Clinton-Obama ticket where Barack could get some experience and we could see if a woman could do a better job as President.

Hillary may be a tough lady but she has matriarchal genes. "Political correctness" be damned, there is something to the concept of women being less reckless and warlike in the macho sense of males -- especially the "make my day" mentality that 2,000 rich white guys installed in the White House 7 years ago.

So, if the voters do choose a woman, could we do worse than what we've been subjected to for the past two presidential terms? Would a mother permit 3,000 young men and women to die and another 20,000 to be maimed for life all for a lie? Would she listen better than a classically behaving dry drunk who solicits advice only when forced and then rejects it out of hand?

One of the questions I'll be asking come the next primary and election cycle is, "Who has shown the most resilience and the least proclivity for going whichever way the "political poll winds" blow on a particular day? Who has the greatest chance of uniting Congress in a major cleanup of our national political culture and values system? If we don't address the challenge of cleaning up that veritable cesspool, don't be surprised if more Congressmen and women surface with shit all over them. Tell me what you think.
